Honda HRX 217 Lawnmower Pull Cord Stiff

My Honda HRX 217 lawnmower pull cord is very stiff to pull. However, when I remove the plug, it pulls freely.
Prior to this problem, it seems to have worked well the last time I operated it.
I will appreciate any suggestions on how to fix it.

Thanks!

When you spin the engine over without the plug in it does anything blow out of the plug hole?

Welcome to the forums.

My sister's Honda looks just like that one.
Be sure to squeeze the blade engage handle before pulling the starter.

Nothing comes out. I saw videos of people that solved the problem by expelling oil out through the plug opening, but that is not the problem here.

Did you hit something solid that made the engine stop abruptly if so you could have a sheared or partially sheared flywheel key which can make it hard to pull the rope and it will kick back at times. Have a good one. Geo
