Installing Cruise Control on older Craftsman Mower

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2012 Craftsman (MTD) 46" 21HP Lawn Mower Model # 247.288852. It looks showroom new and performs perfectly. I am 68 years old and my only complaint is that the foot accelerator is a bit far away and the spring is rather strong for my old and short legs. I saw a NEW and similar model that had an ACCELERATOR LOCK or Cruise Control and I am wondering if there is such a device that I can add to this machine.

Also, my older Craftsman would cut in REVERSE, but this one doesn't. Is there a way to disable this feature?

Looks like they took away the ignition option to run in reverse with blade spinning. There should be some type of bolt and nut that you may be able to loosen to allow the accelerator to be easier to push. You could also attach a block to the peddle to help raise it to your leg length. If that fails you might try looking for a spring with less tension to replace the OEM.
