Kohler 17 hp pro pushes fuel out breather tube

I have a Craftsman 2000 riding lawn mower that I hadn't run for 3 weeks. It has the Kohler pro 17 hp engine. When I got it out it started like it always did and then started sputtering and blowing white smoke and then died. I pulled the air filter off and started it up and it ran for a few seconds then a gusher of dark fluid came out the breather into the carb. I assumed that it blew a head gasket so I pulled the head and the gasket was whole. and there is no hole in the piston. How can that happen almost instantly? Where do I go from here? Thanks

That's probably just the carburetor leaking fuel into the crankcase. The over filled oil/gas then blows out the breather tube. It happens a lot, especially if the engine has sat idle for a time.

Usually it's the float valve in the carburetor that's leaking. Take the carb apart, clean it up and reseat the float valve. Then change oil before running the engine.

Agreed, the carb leaked fuel into the crankcase. I've run into a rash of these lately and some of them required inlet seat replacement or total carb replacement to get them to stop leaking.
