Help? Lawn mower deck removal

I have a ride on lawn mower, Husqvarna YTH 18542, and I need to replace the mandrel/spindle and drive belt. I followed all the user manual instructions for removing the deck, but there is still one thing that is attached and it doesn't say what it is or how to remove it. I am not mechanically inclined so I don't know what it is called. It's a wire, with a spring attached to the deck itself.

Any ideas?

Hi, I am not familiar with that deck but I would trace the end of that black cable and see where it goes, most likely it engages the blades, make sure it is in the rest position, then remove the bolt that is holding the other end to the deck and remove the spring.

The cable is a belt tensioner. It is connected to a manual lever that is used to engage the mower blades. The spring is in expansion when blades are engaged and in compression when blades are disengaged

The spot where the black part of the cable ends where you circled it... that end should just pull out of the notch in the deck. You may have to squeeze the plastic tab down for it to pull out, or some have a clip holding it in. Then you can take it out of the holder and have enough slack to unhook the spring.
