Replacement hose size for pressure washer

I have a Troy Bilt, 3000 psi, pressure washer. The original hose, I think, was 1/4 inch. I have since replaced it with a 25 ft, 5/16 inch hose, and don't really notice any difference in washing capability. Is there a downside to using a 50 ft, 3/8 inch hose? Or even using a 50 ft 3/8 in hose extension, combining the two?

As long as you use the same tips on the gun it doesn't make much difference. A larger diameter hose will have slightly less flow resistance but probably nothing you would notice. The downside to a larger hose is that it's more expensive, bigger and heavier to store and drag around.
