We have a Toro Personal Pace self-propelled push mower, and the metal end of traction cable near the handle broke off, causing the self propel to stop working. I remove the broken cable and replaced it with a new replacement cable. I'm confident the cable is installed correctly, and I think I have the tension adjust correctly on the cable, however the self-propel is still no working properly. Prior to the cable breaking, the mower would obviously propel forward when we pushed forward on the handle. Now when we push on the handle, it does propel forward, but when we pull back on the handle, the wheel propels forward. Any ideas? Is the tension not adjusted correctly? Or was there something else wrong besides the broken cable causing this issue?
Thank you,
Kevin

Did you check the length of old cable to new? If not a Toro product could be close but different length. Redo cable adjustment for wheel power engage point closer to end of the handle travel direction for power engage.

Thank you for the reply - yes I compared lengths and they were basically identical in length, and that is how I initially gauged how to adjust the cable tension. I can certainly keep trying to tweak the cable tension to see if that helps, however what seems strange to me is that when I push the handle forward, absolutely no wheel movement at all, but when I pull back on the handle it moves the wheels and pull the mower forward, which was never like that prior to the cable breaking. Just want to make sure I wasn't missing something else that may be wrong. I will try adjusting the tension different ways, and see what happens and post back.
Thank you,

Toro Products have a penchant for acting in totally weird ways, when "will fit" aftermarket parts are installed on their products. If you get the Toro cable, you can also get some help from the dealer or distributor you bought it from.

Sorry for the delay in responding back. I continued messing with the tension setting on the cable and eventually was able to get this working correctly. Thank you for your help with this.
