Old lawnmower problems

My lawnmower broke and a friend loaned his old badly maintained mower.

The mower otherwise runs good but has severe problem with cold start. The only way to start it is to remove the spark plug, put a few drops of gas , put it back and start.
no problem restarting once it is warm.

Any idea if replacing spark plug will take care of this ?

Sounds like it's not getting fuel or primed during a cold start. Replace primer bulb or look for a cracked fuel line.
Possibly a sticking float in the carb. Most likely needs a good cleaning.
Also try loosening or removing gas cap when staring.

May be so old it doesn't have a primer bulb.

A can of starter fluid would at least make the process faster, a short shot in the air cleaner and away you go!

Without the make and model it is very difficult to solve your problem, you are asking how long is a rope. Have a good one. Geo
