old generator

I have an old kohlor generator that i need to take apart to rebuild the moter. Is there a trick to taking the genertor off the moter or do i have to take it apart as a assembile then take it apart at that point. the model # of the generator is 15m25 serial# 186471 the molad# for the moter is K 90.

Hello pjmii

Basically, if you can avoid removing the generator, do so. It takes a special puller to remove the input shaft from the engine drive shaft. Same for installing it back on.

You shouldn't have to remove the generator unless the oil seal and output shaft bearing needs replacement.

Get the service manual or a generic generator repair manual. There are several available at small negine repair shops. You'll most likely have to go there for parts anyway.

Most small engine repair shops are rather happy to see a dityourself repair person. WHY? Because shop owners need to sell parts and are always willing to fix customers screwups at inflated prices......just humor folks!
