mtd oil

mtd rider...14 hp briggs&stratton I.C. engine....any one know the crankcase oil capacity....specifically (i don't have manual)

PS to tom.......just got around to working on it again...you were right..was the battery...little ball testor didn't give a clue.

I would suggest you start by pouring in 1 and 1/4 pints and then check the level on the dipstick. Repeat adding small quantities of oil until the level is slightly under the full mark.

Any brand non multi-weight oil is fine.

Go online to Briggs and Stratton's website and plug in your engine number and information.

You can download the owner's manual and parts catalog for free as PDF. Then, you will know exactly how much oil to put in . Or, you can e-mail them through their "ask an engine specialist" and get an answer in less than a week.

I'm not a big fan of B&S engines (I think Tecumseh makes a more durable engine) over Tecumseh, but B&S has product support pegged hands down. One of the best websites out there in my belief:
