Pull start squeeling
#1
Hi
I have a rottotiller with a briggs and stratton engine that starts and runs fine.
After about 20 seconds the pull cord comes out of the casing by about 2 inches and squeals very loudly. The cord will then pull back in and the noise stops.
This continues intermittently while I am rottotilling.
What is wrong and what do I have to do.
Thanks for your help again.

Hi! You have a dry cranking ratchet. Remove the cover with the pull rope in it, then remove the screen that is over the flywheel. Take the top off of the cranking ratchet (round thing with square post sticking out the middle). Take care not to lose the little steel balls inside. Clean the shaft that is now exposed, and put some oil on it. Reassemble. Not as hard as it sounds. Good luck, ..chuck
