I have a ranger 8 welder with a 16 Horse Kohler engine on it. This type of engine has a straight pipe Muffler. Is there another Muffler to purchase to make it a little more silent. I don't need "Whisper Mode" like Airwolf had. But anything would be better for my shop.

Hello Ironworker

Kohler manufactures a line of engines within that horsepower rating. Any model engine of this horsepower used on another Kohler product would work well.

A visit to the dealers store or just about any small engine repair shop should either have the correct muffler or be able to order it for you.

Any other brand of muffler that is rated for an engine of 16 and up horsepower should work fine also. The main concern is not to restrict the exhaust flow with a muffler that is too small for the engine. Installing a too restrictive muffler would create major adverse effects on the engine.

An alternative suggestion, if possible, depending upon the location of your shop, city codes and local fire regulations requiring a spark arrester, would be to use flexible steel exhaust tubing and vent it outdoors.
