I have a Homelite XL 16" chainsaw, UT#11754, Ser#HR0310058 that is three years old but has less than 10 hours total use. About one year after I bought it new, it started giving me trouble. I depress the bulb several times and put it on full choke and started it. It starts and I put the choke down to half and it runs well for about 30 seconds and then start dying. I then full choke it for an instant and it runs but begins to die because of flooding so I have to play with the choke at about 3/4 choke to keep it running. I have opened the H jet about 1/8 to 1/4 turn but still cannot overcome the problem. I took it to a small engine shop and the old fellow that repairs them said the new saws are junk and it would cost more to repair than it is worth. He indicated he would drill a larger hole for the main jet. I believe he just did not want to be bothered with it and may not have known the real problem. If it worked well when it was new, I would not think it would need a larger hole drilled for the main jet now.
Any insite into this problem would be appreciated.Read More
Hello,
I have been attempting to revive an old Stihl chain saw (031AV) with little success. It has sat around for at least 8 years. It has decent spark, but I can't get fuel to the carb. Looking at the fuel line, I can see that there isn't enough pull to get the fuel up out of the tank. There seems to be a diaphragm type pump on the carburator, but I have no idea what drives it. My plan is to get a rebuild kit for the carb and replace the gaskets/diaphragm. Any other ideas? Also, any leads on reasonably priced Stihl parts?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
ThanksRead More
