Hello and Welcome Zekester to our Do-It-Yourself Web Site and my Small Engine forum.
There are several other home study courses available for consideration. Buy a Popular Mechanics and or a Popular Science magazine, you'll find at least 2 or 3 other companies offering the courses.
The choice to sign up with one of them is a choice only you can decide to make. It's would simply be a matter of personal choice.

"Accurate Power Equipment Company"
Small Engine Diagnostics Services and Repair.
During installations of some parts that may not fit exactly perfect, it may be necessary to apply "BRUTE" force in order to compel compliance.........{....just humor folks... }

I would recommend buying a Briggs manual and pick up a
few junk push mowers and start in. I got my start by
going to a local mower shop and offering to work cheap
because I wanted to learn. I have attended many classes
and schools and gleaned very little. I don't have any experience
with correspondance schools, so I don't know if they are any
good or not.

Yup. And consider working with a friend.
My friends and I always work together to try to solve each other's troubles. We always learn in the process which is a good thing.
I started by putzing with some old junk that someone threw out. I have fixed them both . Even if you can't fix it, if you learn by tearing them down or finding what went wrong (even if it's not worth fixing), you learn in the process.
Teardown inspection and repair is one of the keys to getting it right.
