Electric Starter Question
#1
Toro riding lawn mower
I have a Toro Riding lawn mower Wheel Horse 12-32XL, model 7118, Serial no. 7900472. The Battery I just purchased has cranking amps of 350 and cold cranking amps of 275. The book that came with the mower requires 160 cold cranking amps - so I assume it is not the battery.
I have put the following new parts on the mower:
air filter
silinoid
I had the starter checked.
The first time I tired to start it after I installed the battery, it sounded as though it was going to start and then it stopped.
Now it is making a continuious noise(it is the same noise until the key is turned off).
What could be the problem?

The noise you hear, does it happen the whole time the key is on, or just when the key is turned to "start"? If you're hearing a buzzing noise all the time until key is turned completely off, then you have either a bad solenoid, or an electrical problem...possibly in the switch. Are you handy with a test light, or voltmeter? Check the wire that plugs onto the bottom of the solenoid for power. It should ONLY have power when the key is turned to "start". If that is the case, and the solenoid or starter is what is making the noise, then the solenoid is bad.
