weed trimmer pull cord

I found a featherlite line trimmer in my neighborhood. The pull cord is out of the unit. I cant get it back in. I took it to my local service center. The man told me it would not be worht the labor to get it fixed. I see in sears that the unit cost 60 dollars today.

Any idea how I can fix it?

You will have to disassemble it far enough to get to the back side of the rope spool. The return spring under the spool is probably broken. There is a chance that the clutch dogs on the flywheel are stuck, and may need to be freed up and lubricated. The clutch dogs are the 2 "fingers" on the flywheel that touch the spool that turns when the rope is pulled.
