Stain over white paint???
#1

I want the trim in my house which is white now to look like maple or pecan wood.i can't find paint anywhere near the color i want but i easily found stain. Can i put the stain over the paint???I understand there will be no woodgrain showing but i am not concerned with that with the trim.also if i can use stain "as paint"if it turns out flat looking what can i use over it to get a glossy finish???I'm also going to do the doors the same color, are they going to look odd without any woodgrain?if so what kinda gadget would make an easy job of creating woodgrain??
thanks for your help!!

Noooooo, you can't stain over paint. If you like the color of a particular stain, bring a sample to a paint store. They can custom match the color with new paint.
There are techniques for "wood graining" I've never done it, but it looks rather easy. Your paint store or home center will have the tools and supplies.
