Paint or solid color stain?

Paint or solid color stain?
I will soon be painting or staining a untreated wooden fence and I was wondering should I use solid color stain or primer/paint?
What are the pro's and con's of both? Thanks, Rob.

Rob,
If it was my fence, neither. I believe either will peel in a few years down the road. Solid color stains(usually acrylic) are decent for vertical surfaces, but eventually they will chip and fail.
I would suggest a semi-transparent oil base penetrating stain with water repellency and uv protection.
I hope the posts were made with treated lumber.
