Question Painting

I want to re-paint my bathroom cabinets, for Practice. I am pretty sure that they have oil based paint on them now. I like the look but I am only used to laytex paint. I would like to paint over with a laytex, But I would like the same texture. Any suggestions.

What kind of finish is on them now, is it factory or something someone else aplyed?

In any case i would recomend oil unfortunately it will give the
best results.Pertically on cabinets where the finish has to be very dureable.
You can get oil in a much higher gloss finish and the higher the gloss the better it will lay down, showing less brush strokes.
To aid in aplying it try thining it with a little mineral spirits.

Now if you insist on latex your going to have to scuff the surface with sand paper anything from 100 to 220 gritt will do fine.Primmer with a good qaulity primmer (i would lighty sand the primmer also it will smooth the brush strokes)and then depending on finish color and sheene one or two coats of finish.

For the paint brand i would recomend Farrel Calhouns if you have one closs by.
