painting new walls

I have just finished prepping a new basement for painting. The trim has not been installed yet and I'm thinking it would be much easier to pre paint the trim, paint the walls, install the trim, caulk as needed, and then touch-up nail holes etc..

I was told by a friend that it is common to install the trim prior to any painting. Is this true, and if so, how is my plan flawed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Your plan is what I do. It just makes good sense to me.

Hope this helps.
