Picking the right color

Picking the right color
I would like to figure out what color I can paint my walls to complement my furniture. I want a nice warm color. I have a off white couch, and two burgandy wing chairs. My coffee table and end tables are dark wood. Could some one help? Maybe with a website with paint color coordination. Thank you so much for your help.

Color is such a personal preference which is why it is rarely spoken of around here. I personaly always prefer color. By this I mean anything but white. White bores me and everyone has it. Think about when you go to someones house with nice "colors" in all rooms and all the rooms for the most point are a different color and you think boy this looks so nice I whish I had this at my place. Now is your chance to do it. I am not saying paint your rooms flourescent pink (unless your into that
) but look at all the different shades of geen, blues, yellow, red, orange, brown etc.... Go to a paint store and take a million swatches home. Put it against your furniture and see what sticks out. Keep in mind that painting is only a layer to the overall rooms scheme. Paintings on the wall, trim color, curtain, rugs, wood floor, area rugs, fireplaces, accent pillows, furniture color etc..play an equally important role in your choice. Another good thing to do is look inside several design magazines at the different rooms and see what you like too. My wife and I always do this before anything major design projects.
If you want my personal suggestion, from what you stated to me with colors I would go with a shade of brown (believe it or not). I have what sounds like very similar colors and we are currently using a warm shade of brown. Not to dark though if it is a smallish room because it will tend to close it off. I think brown scares a lot of people away but it is very nuetral and goes with everything. It also will not be the focal point of a room and accents colors very nicely. So many people nowadays are painting living rooms a lighter shade of green or blue and personaly I think it will go down a fashion trend like avacado green and gold were to the seventies
. Again this is my PERSONAL opinion, if anyone reads this and gets offended that I just insulted your color scheme it was not intended, this is just why this topic does not come up much
.
