repaint wood with latex paint

How do I prepare a wood surface that has previously been painted wih an oil base paint? I want to repaint it with a latex paint.

I don't know what the surface is. Assuming that the existing paint is mechanically sound.

Wash thoroughly with TSP or mineral spirits, make any repairs and caulk as appropriate, degloss as needed by rubbing with a scotchbrite pad unless it needs to be sanded to remove roughness, prime with a top quality primer, such as: Zinsser 123. Paint with top quality acrylic latex paint. Two coats may be necessary depending upon the surface and its use.

Hope this helps.
