Painting over semi-gloss trim

I want to paint over my existing semi-gloss interior trim with another coat of semi. The paint is mostly in good shape. Do I just paint right over it? Rough it up first? Prime it? I suspect it's lead-based, so I'd like to avoid roughening it up if I could.

Your trim paint must be as old as mine, if it still has lead in it. Wash the trim with TSP. Semi-gloss paint rarely is glossy enough to need to be roughened. Prime with a top quality primer, such as: Zinsser 123, then paint.

Hope this helps.
