striping paint off plaster surfaces

i'm looking to strip paint off a plaster ceiling. the paint on the ceiling is cracking and peeling. i'd like to start from square one. is there a prefered method of striping that paint off to the plaster surface? thanks

Scraping or stripping or sanding would be the ways to go to get it to the original surface. I prefer to scrape because I don't like to have stripper dripping from overhead.

Stripping the paint completly from the ceiling is not gonna be easy...Dont forget that Gypsum plaster is pourous and would have soaked up the first coat..
I f I were you..I would rub it down as flat as possible..Give it a coat of 123..Fill where needed..Rub down,prime filler and decorate with 2 coats of your finsh paint..
