Question Several painting questions...

I recently bought my first home and will be moving in the beginning of February. I plan on doing all the painting before moving all my junk in, but am new to all this "home improvement" stuff! The interior walls have a slight sheen to them and I am wondering what is the best way to prep them before applying a flat paint. Also what type of paint is best to apply to the ceilings and how long do I need to wait after painting the ceilings to tape so I can paint the walls? Thanks for all the help...

One bewildered (but happy) new home owner!

If they are already painted and appear r shiny I would lightly sand them with a sanding sponge or sandpaper/wash walls with TSP solution . Fill nail holes /spackle etc. Flat is what most people prefer for ceilings. You shouldnt spend alot for ceiling paint. If your going to use tape wait at least 24hrs.
