painting concrete basement floors

I have been told by a painter to use oil based paint. The first coat diluted with thinner. I read somewhere that oil based paint can react to the chemicals in concrete. Also can I use a clear sealer/paint?
The concrete floor is approx 18 months old and the house has been live in for about 14 months.
Looking for advice.
Thanks
RG

Since the concrete is brand new, and never painted, I would use a concrete stain instead of paint. I've never heard of or had any bad reactions with concrete and paints/stains.

Depending on the floors finish, you might need to etch it with muriatic acid.
