Question painting interior wood trim & interior door

My home was built in 1979 and the interior has all dark wood doors and trim. The stain is in pretty good shape, it is not glossy and it gives the home a dated and dark appearance. The doors are a solid wood and they do not have any cut-outs, but you can see the wood grain on them. I would like to paint every dark piece of wood trim and door in the home with a cream or white glossy paint.

Can anyone tell me am I wasting my time by painting them? Should I keep the old trim and buy new interior doors and paint them? My problem with buying new doors is that it would be expensive.

Does someone know an inexpensive way to brighten up the inside of my house?

Confused.

If you don't like the dark stain, paint them.
