Painting floors

I have just purchased a 100 year old home. The floors have been painted before and i was thinking of painting them again.
Can some please tell me the steps I have to take to prepare and paint them......also, after the paint drys, can you seal it with with something like a urethayn? ANY help I can get will be appreciated as I am a single gal just "starting over"

Sand them down, use a tack cloth or swifter to remove all the dust and particles, and apply 1 coat of oil based Porch & Deck Enamel. After drying a couple of days, lightly sand with very fine sandpaper, remove dust again, and apply a second coat. The removing of dust is a very important process, as any little hair or booger will really stand out in a new paint job. Especially walking across the floor in socks or bare feet, you will feel the little bumps.
