Question when to paint?

I have always noticed that builders seem to trim out a room first, then paint it.

Im wrapping up a basement build out and was going to do all the painting first, And then cut the trim to size and stain it prior to installing. My goal is not to get any paint on the stain or visa-versa.

I was just kind of curious if there was a method to this madness! :-)

I'm not a builder, and I don't do trim, but I would probably do it like you said. Paint the walls first, and stain the trim in one piece. Then cut and install the trim, but be ready to touch up the walls where the trim scuffs them.

I wouldn't be concerned how any builder does anything, they aren't out for quality, they are out for profit.

Truer words have never been spoken. Imfinding that out the hard after only living in this new house since November.

Thanks for your reply. I'll probably do it the way I discribed.

Do it as you describe. That's how I did my basement. Worked great.

Builder's trim the room first because:
1. Having the finish carpenters come back drives up costs.
2. Having the painters come back drives up costs.
