Painting Interior Metal Entry Door

The front entry door to my condo is a metal door with an original-looking ('84) medium brown finish to it. It does not appear to have ever been painted. I'd like to paint it to match the walls (a greyish white), or a complimentary light color. It seems obvious I'm going to need two coats, but what technique should I use to paint ? I'm sensitive to seeing brush marks, but the door has eight recessed decorative panels so I can't use a roller on the entire door.

Yes, you can use a roller on it. Use a 4" roller, and roll out each piece seperately, doing all the recessed panels first, then the rails and stiles. Roll out one panel, and brush it smooth. Then after panels are done, roll out the stiles, (horizontal pieces) and brush after each, then do the rails, (vertical pieces). Use Sherwin Williams Waterbourne Pro-Classic or Benjamin Moore Waterbourne Satin Impervo, both of these paints level very well and show hardly no brush strokes.

You mixed up your rails and stiles, guy. Rails are horizontal, stiles vertical.

Yes, I sure did. Maybe I shouldn't be sitting on my head when I try to type next time.

This may seem like a stupid question, but I have no idea what you mean by stiles and rails.

Rails and stiles are the parts of the door that aren't recessed panels. Imagine a wooden door, they are the boards or slats that make up the door minus the paneled areas.
