What color to paint the crown molding

What color to paint the crown molding
I will be painting my family room a warm taupe and I will paint the ceiling a white. I am not sure which of the two colors is appropriate to paint the crown molding at the ceiling. Please give advice. Thanks

What color is the other woodwork in the house? (baseboards, doors, etc)
if the other woodwork is white, the crown should be white.
if the other woodwork is stained, i'd paint the crown white like the ceiling, but use a semi-gloss, not the ceiling white paint, which is very flat.

then i'd paint the crown off-white, too, just like all the other woodwork.
( 2nd choice would be the semi-gloss white. but absolutely not the taupe. )
if you think it'll look wierd, consider painting the ceiling the off-white, too. there's no rule anywhere that says all ceilings must be white-white. MANY times they look better some other color.....
but i'm from the "treat all the trim in the house the same" school.....it instantly creates flow from room to room.

Crown moulding is treated the same as the rest of the moulding in the house as Annette says. Mouldings in a house are always semigloss. To add appeal the crown will show off itself, painted an off white semigloss to the ceilings flat finish even if the ceiling color is the same.
