Exterior Painting: Spray versus Brush

Can someone supply me the pros and cons of using a paint sprayer versus brushes/rollers for painting the exterior of a house. I am most concerned about the quality, not cost. The exerior of my large house has wood trim and cedar siding.

Thanks!

As far as time goes spraying is the way to go. The downside is taping everything you dont want paint off. I believe spraying looks better on siding because it has a smoother finish but on cedar and wood problaby not gonna notice a big difference in the texture. Another con of spraying is that your gonna have some overspray depending on how far u live from others definatly keep cars away if its a windy day.

Brushing and rolling imo is good if your using two differnt colors but very time consuming.

I would spray the whole house what color you want not working to much about taping off the other color and brush all the trim. Depending on the size u could finish it in a weekend.

I've seen some really crappy spray-jobs.Runs,overspray,too thin in areas. You have to be very profficient with a sprayer to get a professional look. Most cheap spray-painters just want to finish in a day and be gone.Go with quality! Prep is most important!

like knight said prep is everything, and personally i prefer brush and roll, it is a lot more time consuming but will last a lot longer. sprayed outsides can flake off in sheets bigger then notebook paper.

Thanks for backing me up.I really expected all the sprayers to rag on me and call me names.

I also prefer brush/roll. spraying has it place, but I'm old-fashoined when it comes to painting exterior. If done properly, it can easily last 10-20 years.
