Painting over 100% non paintable caulk

Over the last couple of days my husband installed crown moulding around a cathederal ceiling. He used 100% silicone to caulk the seams and caulk between the wall/ceiling and the moulding where the gaps were large. Now he realized that the caulk isn't paintable. How can we recover from this snafu?

Wipe the caulk down with mineral spirits, and let dry. Then prime the caulk with an oil or alkyd primer, 2 thin coats if necessary. Then paint it with the finish paint.
