Paint over wood trim

Paint over wood trim
All,
We have wood trim around the windows. The wood is not a very pleasing color and instead would like to paint them white. Do we need to sand the existing window trim first or just paint over the wood?
Thanks in advance!

I would say it depends on the type & condition of the existing paint. If it's a flat paint that was used, I would just light sand to rough it up a bit then put on a coat of primer followed by the paint of your choice. I'll move this up to the Painting forum, you may get some different advice up there. HTH & happy holidays. :glocke:

It's pretty unlikely that window trim would be painted in flat and more likely semi-gloss.This increases the need to sand as well as prime. If the color now present is dark then primer becomes even more important if white is going to be applied over it.
