Question

Hi there,

I've just bought a great shelving unit which I'd like to put up in my study. Problem is, it's a really horrible shade of green. I'd like to spray paint it, but I'm not sure what (if any) primer I'd need to put onto it first. It is a veneered surface. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

James

I ran into a situation like this years ago with formica covered night stands. What I did was to sand the surfaces with a 220 grit sand paper to offer a profile on the surface, I then primed with a pigmented shellac for adhesion and let dry overnight. Then I put a finish coat of Benjamin Moore's Satin Impervo Enamel on, two coats and to this day it is still holding up well, our cat jumps up on the nightstand regularly and I haven't had a real scratching issue yet.
