I want to paint an old, scratched and rusting refrigerator and an old silver rusting furnace. What kind of paint should I use and is it possible for me and my husband to do it ourselves? our home is on the beach, so the paint would have to withstand salty air, and not rust.

Thank you!

You can do this your selves, I would suggest that you remove as much of the loose rust as possible, then treat with A product called rust reformer to seal up the rust, I would then use a product called Ironclad low lustre alkyd metal and wood enamel and apply several coats as a primer base, allow to dry then apply a finish coat of Impervo Gloss alkyd enamel to finish it off, this will give you a durable system that can handle salt exposure. You will find these products at Your local professional Benjamin Moore Paint dealer.
