Question

I have water stains on my ceilings from a major leak from a burst pipe. The stains are along the edges of the wallboard sheets where they are taped. There is a hairline crack but no chipping or peeling paint. Can I use a paint such as Kilz and then repaint the ceiling or does it need more extensive repair????? HELP

Cool

Fill crack with "instant drying" spackling compound. Prime/seal with Kilz. Paint. All O.K.

I would recommend using B-I-N in a spray can. That way you eliminate the possibility of leaving a heavy brush stroke texture where you prime the stains.

A spackle with a solvent base is less likely to give you problems if there is any latent moisture in the sheetrock.
