I am interested in painting a floor after removing the carpet. The flooring under the carpet is particle board. I need to know what type of paint to use and how many layers of paint as well as what I should seal the floor with. (We got a large puppy who has destroyed the carpet in more than one way).

I think you should use an oil based primer for the best seal for a first coat.A 100% acrylic latex primer(sold under many names)would do if you did not want to endure the fumes and general mess of an oil but be advised that the latex primer will not hold back water stains(if you know what I mean...)or the adhesive in the particle board that may or may not be a problem.Follow whatever primer with finish of your choice but I think some type of deck paint(fumes)is in order.
