What type of prime should I use and what type of paint. How many coats of each. Also any other suggestion you might have about painting paneling would be greatly appericated. THANK YOU.

Use Benjamin Moore "Fresh Start"- it's a latex, grabs to everything primer. Top coat with Benjamin Moore "Regal"- flat latex, use two top coats for the best results.Good luck!

Another good primer is zinsser's BIN. Either will work well.

I recently painted paneling and here are some things for you to think about. I couldn't find a roller that painted the groves in the paneling so I had to hand paint the groves and then run the roller over it. This procedure was performed for both the primer and the top coat. I applied two coats of primer because in the end I was using light paint and I didn't want the dark paneling showing through. I only used one coat of the top coat and it looks great. This project is time consuming depending on how much square footage you're working on but in the end it's well worth it.

Good Luck!
