Question painting over existing wood paneling

Is there a product available to fill in the grooves in wood paneling so it can be painted and get a smooth finish?
After posting, read some other inquiries. Has anyone tried the joint compound for filling the cracks? How well did it work? Thanks.

I would highly advise that you use car bondo. It's a better, tougher, paintable surface and fills gaps well.

Proceed with caution. Unless you are a master with the mud or bondo, the result will look just like what it is. ie) the end result will look like someone tried to fill in grooves of paneling. It won't look like a smooth wall.

Before filling in the grooves you need to prep the wall. You may need a deglosser or just a light sanding. Then prime. This gives the mud/bondo a better grip.
