Red face

We've just finished painting our kitchen with latex semi-gloss "kitchen" paint. As we're peeling off our masking tape, chunks of paint are coming with it OR the tape is adhered to the paint and we have to use a knife to cut it off.

How do we avoid this as we paint the rest of the house? We painted over wallpaper, using 3 coats of Kilz and 2 coats of paint. It was really humid the past few days, so we left the tape on longer than we would normally do.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First of all. don"t use masking tape - it sticks too well. I have been using for the past 4-5 years a product called "KleenEdge Easy Release" painters tape. It is available at Lowes and possible Walmart. Home Depot used to carry it. Put the tape on, press it down good and remove it as soon as the paint is dry. Any tape will pull up the underlying paint if the paint bond is not good.

A blow dryer works wonders for removing masking tape that has been left on to long.

Remove the tape as soon as you are done painting.
