We are just building a lake cabin and we are getting ready to stain our cedar siding and we have been told Messmer's, Siemann's and Cabott. But, which one or if there are any other suggestions. thank you

Cabott or Benjamin Moore's Moorwood line of stain. Both are good.

I think what you are after is an assurance that the stain you use will look good and protect your cabin. In all the years I have been around new or existing homes I have never seen a stain failure that was traced back to the stain.Over thinning, uncured or wet wood are three things to watch for.I have never heard of Messmers or Siemanns but have used Pittsburgh,Devoe,Sherwin-Williams,Benjamin Moore and Cabots, all are fine stains.I hope you intend to use a semi-transparent so you will be able to see the cedar grain.......Mike
