exterior painting

I'm painting a brand new garage. Textured
T-111 siding. Using oil based primer and 100%
acrylic latex topcoat (intend to put on 2 topcoats). Am only getting about 180 sq. ft./gallon coverage with the primer and the priming is going pretty slowly. I'm using a brush but was wondering about spraying. Does spraying result in as good a job as brushing?
Would I have to back roll if I sprayed? I want the job to last as long as possible so I'll keep brushing if that's the best way.

You could spray the primer on. Just make sure you work it in, you could use a roller or a brush. Usually we will use a certain type of broom to work mat'l in on rough sawn wood. Also remember spraying oil means the overspray stays wet alot longer in the air as it travels onto the neighbors car
