Hi! I'm new here — I have some unfinished furniture that I would like to paint for my nephew's room. It will be bright and fun with lots of designs — 1. what kind of paint should I use? — I want rich color. 2. How should I finish it? I don't really want it to have a sheen, and I want the finishing part to not be too complicated. Do you ever put tung oil (or something like that) over painted surfaces??
THANKS! arodgers

Sand the furniture to take out all the rough spots. Use a tack rag (available at hardware or home stores) to remove all the dust. Prime the furniture with a good oil based primer. Let it dry according to the mfg. instructions. Lightly sand it again and tack rag it again. Apply two coats of a top quality paint ( I prefer oil based). You may want to lightly sand between finish coats.

As far as the sheen is concerned, I would not use a flat paint. As a minimum, I would use a satin finish. Flat paint gets dirty easy and is difficult to clean.
