Textured Batroom ceiling

Planning to use W/R sheetrock on a batroom remodel,(2nd floor) then have it taped and sprayed with a textured finish. Will also be installing a combination heat lamp/ exhaust fan.(venting thru attic to roof vent) Will there be any problems down the road with peeling,or mold on this type of ceiling? Thanks.

Do you plan on painting the ceiling after the texture is applied? If so, use a kitchen & bath paint, which is formulated with mildewcides and mold inhibitors.

I wasn't planning to paint it after it's textured. If i do, what is the preferred technique?

If the texture is made with a joint compound-like substance, then it will be susceptible to mold if the ventilation isn't excellent. I would apply a coat of Zinsser's GARDZ as a primer, and 2 coats of k & b paint for finish.

Holy paintbrush, Batman!! Sounds like weewillie is going to spray a popcorn finish since it wasn't going to be painted.

Hey Bob. Can you explain what you mean by a "popcorn finish"
I wasn't aware that you could paint over a sprayed textured finish, do you use a high nap roller, or what works best?

Popcorn is the accoustic material the is used in many, many homes now because its cheap. You don't need to finish the ceiling as you would for painting and the stuff is sprayed on and not painted. Saves the builder $$ in labor.
Yes it can be painted with a thick nap.
