Cool

Hi,
I have knotty pine in my kitchen that is very dark and would like to paint it. I am worried the knots will show through the paint. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Is the darkness natural patina or a coating such as varnish or shellac? Alcohol dissolves shellac. Lacquer thinner dissolves varnish. If it's varnish problems may arise after painting. Complete stripping will solve the problems before they occur. For the longest time knotty woods have been sealed with shellac prior to painting. Thus sand; prime with a pigmented shellac, and then paint. The same applies to natural patina.
