Question

I want to brighten up my wood paneling with paint, yet not cover up the wood grain. Would this be pickling or white washing? How is this done? Thanks for any help.

Best to use oil based paint THINNED.
Wash walls with TSP, this will clean them as well as prep them for whitewashing/pickling.
Wipe on the thinned oil based paint just like you would a stain. This will colour the panelling without all the work of having to seal and prep otherwise. You can not use latex without a lot of work.
OR you can use white stain. This is softer but will give you the same affect BUT it may take more then one coat to get the colour you want.
