Finishing Porch

I usually use a porch paint on my concrete porch to finish it. However the paint strips after 2 years. This year I stripped off the paint with paint stripper thinking I would finish it with a good finishing thin cement to leave it natural. When I looked at the concrete surface though it is very good so I decided against putting another coat of concrete on it. I want to paint it again. What is the best patio paint to use and is there a primer to use first to seal it properly.

Hi Cal, there's alot of good brands of exterior rated paints for cement on the market. All of them are going to wear with heavy foot traffic. A good primer and proper & complete surface prep is the critical thing you need for any paint to adhere properly on any surface. I don't do a huge amount of painting outside and old concrete porches are hard to paint and have it hold up well. For exterior house paints I wouldn't use anything but an acryllic and the best I could afford. Painting isn't one of my favorite jobs as you might have guessed.

I'm going to move this over to the Painting forum, Prowall and the rest of painting guys may have some more thoughts on this topic. Good luck.
