Painting new construction

Do I need to prime the walls before painting in new construction? The walls have only that light type of spray on paint that builders use.
Thanks.

Most likely the builder didn't prime it before spraying. Will primer at this point help? Not too sure, but it can't hurt. If it was my house, I would.

Is the light spray, paint or texture? You can test by rubbing it with a wet rag if it starts to come off use a primer. Better yet ask the builder what he used. The better the paint is that you use the better the walls will both look and wear.

If you rub it with a wet rag it comes off down to the drywall fairly easily.

You definetly need to use a primer. Latex is fine just make sure it is a primer as 2 coats of finish coat will not give you near the washability that 1 coat of primer and 1 coat of finish.

Its just builder's paint on there now. Yes, do use a primer.
