Painting over Oil Base Gloss Paint

Can you paint Latex Gloss paint over Oil Base Gloss Paint?
Do you Sand first or apply some kind of adhesive to get the paint to stick?

It is never a good idea to use latex over top of oil. That being said Sherwin Williams claims that their pro classic waterborne can be. I would sand well and wipe down with deglosser first. Also if you use an oil base primer such as kilz you can then top coat with latex.

The previous post alluded to the way to deal with your situation.Prime with a good bonding primer such as Zinsser 123 or BIN or Kilz. These primers can then be top coated with latex paint.Sand the surfaces first to rough them up with fine grit sandpaper.Make sure the surfaces are then clean and free of dust or grit.Once a surface is properly prepared and primes it is not an issue to apply oil over latex or latex over oil.Modern primers will accept either over either.
