Question Painting over "suede" finish

I hope someone can help. My husband and I moved into our new home a couple days ago and are planning to repaint our bedroom.

The problem is this. Not only are the walls a rust red color but they're a ralph lauren suede finish. We plan to paint it lighter and use a "high density" paint to cover the color at least but is there a way to get rid of the suede finish?

I've asked around at HD but they say either replace the walls (definitely not in the budget) or sand the walls. Is the suede finish that noticeable if you paint over it with a "cover up" then a color?

I appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

Depends on your take on 'noticable'. The texture will still be there, only a different color. Try sanding first to see if it will come off smooth, if not, then skim coating would be the next option.

You might try applying a sample of paint on the wall to see if you like how it looks but sanding will likely be more difficult once you apply paint.
